On 22-25 November 2016, official opening ceremonies of the centres for doctoral education took place at 5 UZDOC partner universities: Tashkent Financial Institute, Uzbekistan State Institute for Arts and Culture, Samarkand Institute for Economics and Service, Karshi State University, and Karakalpak State Universities.
The centres were established in the framework of the UZDOC project and the centres' equipment was funded by the EU Tempus programme.
The openings of the centres provided an occasion to further disseminate another important outcome of the UZDOC project, the publication "Further development of doctoral education in Uzbekistan. Recommendations for quality assurance in doctoral education" which is a result of joint work of Uzbek and European project partners and European practitioners in doctoral education. The ceremonies were followed by meetings with representatives of Universities' academic leadership, key staff involved in doctoral education, doctoral candidates and prospective doctoral students.
Each institution prepared a charter if the centre which would describe the centre's purpose and objectives, tasks of staff responsible for the centre's coordination, and outreach activities aimed at fostering the cooperation in doctoral education between Uzbek higher education institutions. The Rector of Karakalpak State University Prof. Jumanov Muratbay Arepbaevich announced that the QQSU centre will be open to students from all Higher Education Institutions in Karakalpakstan.
